Chiromanthes sereni

Scientific Name: Chiromanthes sereni

Endemic?: Yes (Year of Discovery: 1978, Discoverer: Soh)

IUCN Red List Status: N/A

Population: Unknown

Distribution:

It was discovered in 1978 by Soh in Tai Po and has since had very limited records 1). The second published record was not until 1995 by Lee, with the recorded place being very near the original discovery location2). “They were therefore previously considered having very limited distributions as the habitat type in which they were first found (i.e. supralittoral freshwater paddy fields) was “becoming very rare in Hong Kong” (Lee, 1995), and in fact disappeared now3). However during a 2005 AFCD survey, specimens were found at two sites: Lai Chi Chong and Sham Chung, away from their type localities4). This shows that C. sereni might have a wider distribution than suggested by Soh and Lee5).
